Howard McGarry Memorial Summer Carnival

Our Annual Summer Carnival is returning in 2026, this year will see the name changed to the Howard McGarry Memorial Summer Carnival (named after Club Stalwart for over 50 years who sadly passed away in November)

Howard would always be seen around Lake Illawarra and was a constant figure at our centre, being a part of the Centre’s Committee in the early years as Coaching Coordinator through to being President, Secretary and Vice President as well as just being a constant presenance on our clubs committee for 50 years.

The Howard McGarry Memorial Summer Carnival will be held on the 11th January 2026 and start at 9am sharp, The Carnival will take place in all weather conditions.

Entry Format – Entries will be taken via any of the following formats
RESULTS HQ– via your family portal ResultsHQ – Login (centres must open nominations for this to occur (additional charges will apply)

Carnival Conditions/Rules

  1. The carnival will proceed in all weather conditions and will not be cancelled
  2. The Carnival starts at 9am and there is no specific times for events, Track events will follow the event listing however field events may be callout of sequence to try and avoid clashes
  3. Events maybe combined if numbers are low in certain age groups, but athlete will still be awarded medals for their age group.
  4. Events Specifications will be as per the LANSW/ATHLETICS NSW Competition Pathways (those used at Zone)
  5. Throws/Jump – each athlete will be allowed 3 Throws or Jumps except for the High Jump.
  6. Athlete can compete in an age group above if that event is not in their own age group and the event is allowed under LANSW rules of competition – the Opens 60m is an all age event. All Open competitors must be registered with Athletics NSW/Australia and will use the implement weight for their age group. athletes who have gone up an age group for an event not catered for in their own age group must listen out for the call for that event eg, if you are in the 13’s and entered the High Jump the event on the program will be the 14’s High Jump as there is no High Jump event for the 13’s.
  7. In keeping with spirit of the day – NO PROTESTS – will be considered, if you have any questions or concerns please see myself.
  8. Placing’s for track events will be determined on times, no finals will be run.
  9. Events will receive 2 calls, athletes and parents are reminded that Track events take precedence over field events

WELCOME

The 2025-26 Season will be our centre’s 55th Season, we were formed in 1971 our first season was in 1971-1972, were we were originally named Mid South Coast, before we became Lake Illawarra PCYC Athletics, then Lake Illawarra Little Athletics and Now we are Lake Illawarra Athletics, we are proud to be one of the oldest centres in NSW and the first on the NSW South Coast.

Athletics is a family sport – and at our centre we encourage participations form athletes of all ages. We are able to register Little Athletes (3-17 years old) and Senior Athletes (18+) allowing all ages and abilities to compete on the same night – We’re essentially and Athletics Centre for the whole family, we endeavour to provide opportunities for athletes to compete and enjoy the fun of track and field, while making friends.

Competition Commences every Friday Night at 5.15pm, during the Months of September to March
