State Combined Event Championships

The State Combined Carnival is usually held on the first full weekend in March each year.  This season it is being held the week earlier due to the State Track & Field Championships scheduled earlier.

Little Athletics NSW State Combined Events Championship had a name change to Little Athletics NSW State Combined Events Carnival this year, with athletes in the younger age groups U7 to U11 being given instruction/coaching during the event.  Athletes in the U11 and younger will have the opportunity to learn ‘how to’ throw, jump etc during the event.  A more relaxed attitude to these age groups will occur with time for instruction/coaching from the officials.

Medals are awarded to the top 3 placegetters in all age groups.  Athletes in the U15 age group will be vying for selection into the LANSW State Team to compete at the Australian Little Athletics Championships, which will be held in Canberra in April 2020.

This season, the State Combined Events Carnival will be held at the brand new synthetic track at the Tamworth Athletics Centre,  on Saturday and Sunday, 29 February and 1 March 2020.  For Tamworth Athletics Centre TRACK RULES, CLICK HERE

Online entries are open.  Please CLICK HERE to go directly to the registration page.  If centre members are intending to travel to Tamworth, it would be advisable to book accommodation now, so that they don’t miss out.

Entries will close on Wednesday, 12 February 2020 at a cost of $25 per athlete entry (with a late entry a week later at $50 per athlete).

An OFFICIALS DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP has been scheduled for Friday, 28 February prior to the carnival.  CLICK HERE to find out more information and to register.

First event each day will be at 9am, with first call at 8.30am. Athletes participate in ALL of the events on offer for their particular age group. Performances for all events are allocated points, based on the LANSW Multi-Event pointscore system. The points are then added together to determine final results.

AGE GROUP MANAGERS  – As usual, we will require parents to act as Age Group Managers (which is similar to centre age managers) at the State Combined Event.  Depending on numbers, there will be up to two (2) Age Group Managers per age group and gender (eg. 9 Boys Blue, 9 Girls Pink, 10 Boys Silver etc).  If no parent helper is available for the U13-U17 age groups, we do allow them to look after themselves as long as one of the competing athletes nominates themselves to look after the paperwork.  If you are interested in escorting your child and their age group to their events, in the role of Age Group Managers, please read the AGE GROUP MANAGER MEMO and send your expression of interest to dlevy@lansw.com.au.  Please note that groups without Age Group Managers (Parent helpers) will not be permitted to leave the Meeting Point areas until they have someone to act as Age Group Manager.  If you require more information please contact Diane Levy via email.

INSTRUCTION/COACHING AT EVENT AREAS (for U7-U11 athletes)
A more relaxed attitude to these younger age groups shall occur at this Combined Carnival, with time for instruction from the event officials and/or Little Athletics NSW coaches, before and during the events. Athletes in the U7 to U11 age groups will have the opportunity to learn ‘how to’ throw, jump etc during and before their events.  Timetable considerations will be taken into account, with athletes reporting to their events areas 10 minutes prior to the commencement which will allow for such instruction to occur.  Athletes in these age groups will not be permitted to leave the competition area.

It is noted that athletes in the U12 and above may utilise the coaches’ area for instruction (refer Rules of Competition, Section C General Rules, Coaches Area).

LIST OF COMPETITORS will be sent to all athletes who enter (following close of late entries).  This will show the age group and colour group allocated to each athlete plus the name of the Age Group Manager. Remember that athletes WILL NOT be permitted to leave the meeting point areas if there is no age group manager.

JURY OF APPEAL – As per Rules of Competition, Section A, 1.14 Protests x., the Jury of Appeal will consist of 3 people, taken from the following:

  • Diane Levy (Head of Competition)
  • Carnival Manager
  • Track Referee
  • Throws Referee
  • Jumps Referee
  • Chief Umpire
  • Kerry O’Keefe (Chief Executive Officer)

MERCHANDISE  Tamworth LAC organised for event specific polo shirts ($35 each) and singlets ($25 each) which needed to be pre-purchased by 12 January.   The shirts which were  pre ordered by the due date can be collected at the carnival.   PLEASE NOTE: Due to many people missing the deadline for pre orders, Tamworth LAC have advised that they will take orders and payment at the event for anyone who did not pre order these singlets or shirts.   They will then post these out following the event.  More information will be available when you order.

ACCOMMODATION For information on accommodation in Tamworth and surrounds, please contact Tamworth Visitor Information Centre.

LANSW STATE TEAM

A team of 4 boys and 4 girls (TBC) from the U15 age group will be selected from their performances at the State Combined Events to compete in the Australian Little Athletics Championships, which is held on a weekend near Anzac Day each year.  These athletes will be selected based on their performances in the events which make up the ALAC Combined Event competition.  Each year the Australian Little Athletics Championships is hosted by a different State/Territory Association. In 2020 the event will be hosted by LAACT.  The event will be held as a two-day event on Saturday and Sunday, 18 & 19 April 2020 in Canberra.
