The State Track & Field Championships are the culmination of the track & field competition season.  For the 2019/2020 season, we have moved our State Track & Field Championships forward 1 week as the Australian Championships will be held at SOPAC the following weekend.  Therefore next season the Championships will be held on Saturday & Sunday, 14 & 15 March 2020 at  SOPAC (Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre). (See Conditions of Entry to SOPAC). Athletes in the age groups U9 through to U17 have progressed through to this event after qualifying from their Regional Championships.

Events for the 2020 State Track & Field Championships, which show day/call room time/start time for each event and age group will be  posted below.  Athletes should have been aware of the timings before they made their selections for zone.

Please Note:  There will be NO printed programs for sale at any Little Athletics NSW event.

As per Rules of Competition, Section A, 1.14 Protests x., the Jury of Appeal will consist of 3 people, taken from the following:

  • Board Director (TBA)

For 2020 State Championships shirts, centres will need to collect an order form at their Region Championships, obtain all of the orders from their members, and place a bulk centre order with Nordic Sport, as per the order form that centres will receive at their respective regions.


Once all regions have been completed, the qualifiers to the 2020 State Track & Field Championships will be posted below. Note: The event number listed is NOT the event number in the State Championships program. Just look at the actual event name and disregard the number.

  1. 1st placed relay teams from each of the 8 Regions automatically progress to the State Champs. They are not included in the qualifiers by centre above, but will be in the finalised full program.
  2. The State Track & Field Championships will have up to 24 competitors in every individual event.
  3. The 24 competitors have been determined as follows:

Automatic Qualifiers (up to 16 competitors across the eight Regions)

  • First and second place from each of the eight Regions (see Note 1 below regarding qualifying times/performances)

Additional Performance Based Qualifiers

  • Up to eight additional competitors from across all Regions.

To determine the additional performance based qualifiers, all athletes (from finals) after the automatic qualifiers, across all Regions, will be collated and the best eight determined. Where there were equal performances for the 8th position, all athletes on that equal performance will be excluded (ie. Some events may have less than eight additional competitors).

Note 1: There are qualifying standards for the 1500m Walk; the 3000m run (as per Rules of Competition, Section D) and for High Jump (athletes must have cleared the State Championships starting height for their relevant age group, at their Region Championships to progress. The starting heights can be found in the Rules of Competition. Athletes who cannot achieve the required time/height at the Region Championships, irrespective of placings (including auto qualifiers), will not be considered for progression to the State Track & Field Championships.


At the completion of the 2020 State Track & Field Championships, a team of 32 x U13 athletes will be selected to compete in the Australian Little Athletics Championships.

Four girls and four boys in the U15 age group will also represent NSW at the Australian Little Athletics Championships, with their selection based on their performances at the 2020 State Combined Carnival.

Each year the Australian Little Athletics Championships is hosted by a different State/Territory Association. In 2020 the event will be conducted in Canberra and will be held over 2 days.
